Lisa Akoya at Oshkosh

One of the delights of Oshkosh is seeing new, innovative airplanes. The Lisa Akoya, an amphibious model destined for the LSA category, fits that bill to a tee.

The airplane, which will sell for around $350,000, features a range of approaches never before seen in any airplane. I spent a delightful hour with the folks from Lisa Airplanes walking around their diminutive Akoya LSA amphib and loving every second of the tour.

We look forward to flying the airplane once it gets its flying papers. It currently is going through flight testing, but has made more than 75 flights, including many on the water.

Click through the photo gallery to see how this little French company is opening a lot of eyes to the potential the lower costs of LSA certification afford.

With the possible exception of the price tag, Lisa appears to be poised to clean Icon's clock.
After what seems like too many years, the Icon A5 project is still little more than a few prototypes and countless bombastic promotions that tend to hide the fact that the A5 can be equipped EITHER with folding wings OR retractable gear, but not both.
Unless I misread something in this article, it seems that the Akoya has retracts AND folding wings at the same time which give the Akoya a huge advantage (at least in my opinion).

Oops, the good folks got home from the States to find the company declared bankrupt and put into receivership for six months.
Unless more money is found ( the company's model relied on getting generous state loans aimed at promoting innovation which have not materialized) it looks as though the second, much improved prototype will be the last.
Flys great on the computer though....

$350,000 for an LSA?

I thought ultralights and light sport aircraft were supposed to make flying affordable again.

What the **** happened?

Johnbpatson, it is temporary. Europe (including France) essentially closes during the month of August for the obligatory 30 days vacation, so the gears of government turn stop.
