The first conforming HondaJet made a strong impression during its public debut at Oshkosh this week thanks to a flight demonstration that showed off the jet’s performance capabilities via high- and low-speed passes.
The event comes one month after the airplane made its maiden flight and follows on the heels of the GE Honda HF120 engine certification achieved in December. In addition to its speed — which maxes out at cruise at 420 ktas, making the jet the fastest in its class — the HondaJet also used the flight performance as an opportunity to showcase its quiet nature, which HondaJet reps say results from the airplane’s unique engine-over-the-wing design.
The HondaJet, which was first announced at Oshkosh nine years ago, is equipped with Garmin G3000 avionics and has seating for 1 crewmember and 5 passengers in its typical configuration. The aircraft has a range of 1,180 nm and a max altitude that tops out at 43,000 feet.
HondaJet reps say they expect certification in the first quarter of 2015.
