On Monday at the NBAA Convention, Eclipse Aerospace announced that it was restarting production of its EA500 very light jet. First delivery of the new jet is planned for 2013.

Eclipse is calling the new model the Eclipse 550, but it will retain the type certificate of the original while incorporating some noteworthy changes to avionics and systems, including autothrottles, a first for a light jet. The airplane will get upgraded avionics from IS&S, too, with faster processors and synthetic vision, enhanced vision and even greater integration of systems.

Eclipse CEO Mason Holland said the new jets will have major assemblies built in Poland with assembly continuing to be done for the foreseeable future in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Holland added that once demand industry wide had resumed, he hoped to see ongoing production of 50 to 100 Eclipse jets per year. Price of a new Eclipse 550 will be $2.695 million.

It is a VERY small jet. It is really a rich persons toy......very limited interior space....no baggage space to speak of.....and very limited CG.........already had one.....don't want another....especially at that price....and that is the Base price only....bare bones........hope their quality is vastly improved.......using it Part 135 is impractical...DayJet tried it.....didn't work then, will never work.

For some $ 1 to 1.5 million you can buy a beautifully refurbished Beech E90 with O hour engines that provides far more capacity, far more leg room and a potty so you can fly for 1500 NM not worrying to have to land at the nearest airport if Mother Nature makes a call. Speed is a bit slower alright but fuel consumption is less. Anywhere you fly there is an FBO and mechanics that know this plane inside and out should it need repairs. Whereas the "eclipsito" or little Eclipse is a nice plane to fly around the circuit on, perhaps venture a few miles out but that is it. The DayJet guys are known to be sorry immensely for their faux pas.

This is what the Eclipse craft needs to attract thousands of buyers, it has a lot of features including soothing music, a list of recent users iand does not cost much http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/113664/kohler-toilet-... Good riddance (LOL!)
