AEA to Award Five $1,000 Grants For ADS-B Installation

Tens of thousands of GA aircraft have not yet installed ADS-B Out.

With only two and a half years until the FAA’s ADS-B mandate kicks in, the Aircraft Electronics Association hopes to nudge a few thousand more aircraft owners at AirVenture to install the ADS-B Out required to keep their aircraft legally flying past the December 31, 2019 deadline. AEA will randomly award five lucky aircraft owners attending America’s largest air show $1,000 each toward the necessary upgrades. This is the fourth consecutive year AEA has offered such a grant.

Aircraft owners at least 18 years of age can enter to win each of the five daily drawings by visiting booth 2035/2036 in Hangar B beginning July 24. AEA will announce one winner daily between July 24 and July 28 via its Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts, as well as at the booth directly.

Each winner must use an AEA-member avionics repair station to complete the installation, with the work being scheduled by Aug. 1, 2018. AEA President Paula Derks said, “Aircraft owners who wait to equip will face scheduling pressure and likely higher installation costs as we get closer to the … deadline.”
